Photos of Bugs

Here are some images I have captured during the last two summers,
all from eastern North Carolina.
 More are coming!

Some bugs are very good at disguising themselves. Can you see the grasshopper in the photo on the left?

Most baby bugs come from eggs. The eggs are usually in groups.

Look for bug eggs on the undersides of leaves. Bug mothers are smart! They lay their eggs where no one can see them!

When baby bugs are born, many leave their birth-skin attached to the shell. Once they shed their skin, they grow quickly!

The tiny critter on the left is Zelus luridus, a baby assassin bug who came from one of these eggs. The jelly around the eggs is for protection. It is typical of assassin bug mothers, who have their own special way of keeping their eggs safe!

Baby bugs are called "nymphs". This little "nymph" might be waiting for one of her brothers or sisters to hatch so they can go exploring!

Bug eggs come in all shapes and sizes. The eggs shown here
are very pretty. They are different colors, and they are in perfect rows. Bug mothers are very neat and organized! They don't waste space, and when their babies are born, they will be next to one another so they will have company!

This is what Zelus luridus looks like when it's all grown up. Look for it's red knees!
